CARACAS, Venezuela - The United Naval Services Coordinator for the Venezuelan Navy (Unocar) has begun construction on two Damen Stan Patrol 2606 vessels for the Navy.
Work on the Arpía (PG-55) and the PG-56 has begun under a technology transfer agreement with Dutch Shipbuilder, Damen Shipyards. Unocar will build a total of five Damen Stan Patrol 2606 vessels (Págalo class in Venezuelan service) for the Venezuelan Navy.
The first three vessels in the class are named the Caricare (PG-52), Alcaraván (PG-53), Guanare (PG-54). The hulls of these ships were built in Holland at the Van Noorloos Casconouw BV shipyard. Two of the hulls were transferred to Puerto Cabello, Venezuela late last August. The vessels will be delivered to the Navy in June, July, and August 2015, respectively.
Construction of the Arpía is slated to take eighteen months with delivery scheduled for the first half of 2016.
The vessels will have a displacement of 25 tons and measure 26.5 meters long.
