NEWTOWN, Conn. - Aviadvigatel's PS-90 engines power two Russian aircraft: Ilyushin's Il-96 and Tupolev's Tu-204.
Three versions of the Il-96 are currently available for sale. These include the Il-96-300 and Il-96-400 passenger models and the Il-96-400T freighter. The Russian cargo carrier Polet Airlines is currently the sole operator of the Il-96-400T, and took delivery of three -400Ts in 2009. The aircraft are operated on 15-year leases from Ilyushin Finance Co. Polet's three Il-96-400Ts are the only examples of the -400T that had been built as of the end of 2011. Two are new-production aircraft, while the third is actually the sole Il-96T converted to the -400T configuration.
The Tu-204SM, an enhanced variant of the Tu-204, is slated to eventually become the standard Tu-204 production model. First flight of the initial SM prototype occurred in December 2010. A second prototype took to the air in August 2011. Features of the Tu-204SM include reduced weight, electrically operated slats and flaps, new avionics, a new flight control system, and an improved in-flight entertainment system. At least initially, the aircraft is to be powered by the PS-90A2 engine, an improved version of the PS-90A. Eventually, it may also be sold with either the CFM International CFM56 or the International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500.
