PATUXENT RIVER, Md. -- The U.S. Navy awarded Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. of San Diego, California, a $16.6 million cost-plus-fixed-fee order (N00019-23-F-0436) under a previously issued basic ordering agreement (N00019-20-G-0005) to support non-recurring engineering (NRE) for the redesign of the MQ-4C Triton UAV's Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Airborne Recorder (BAR). As part of this effort, NRE redesign work will also be performed for the BAR ground station and the test aircraft radar's BAR, all to address diminishing manufacturing sources for the Navy.

The MQ-4C Triton supports the U.S. Navy with an unmanned Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) capability. In that role, it utilizes Northrop Grumman's ZPY-3 MFAS radar, which provides the aircraft with Maritime Surface Search, ISAR, and two SAR (Spot SAR and Strip SAR) modes.

Work under this order will be performed in San Diego, California (53%), San Francisco, California (40%), Patuxent River, Maryland (5%), and Chantilly, Virginia (2%). This work is expected to be completed in April 2027.

The Navy Is obligating the full $16.6 million in Fiscal Year 2022 Aircraft Procurement funds at the time of the award. None of this funding will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

The U.S. Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is performing contracting activity duties for this program.
