IRANIAN-BUILT SIMORGH AIRCRAFT CONDUCTS TEST FLIGHT

ISFAHAN - Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani announced that the "Simorgh" light transport aircraft made its first flight on Tuesday. The Simorgh was developed and manufactured by the Iranian Aviation Industry Organization, a subsidiary of the Iranian Ministry of Defense. The Simorgh is locally manufactured in Iran.

The Simorgh is a upgraded variant of the IrAn-140, a modification of the Ukrainian An-140 turboprop aircraft. The Simorgh is equipped with a read ramp for loading large cargo. Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani boasted that the aircraft is light, has a high carriage capacity, is able to take off an land on short runways, and is very agile.
