MOSCOW, Russia -- The Russian Air Force has taken delivery of a batch of Su-34 strike aircraft.
In a statement on Thursday, United Aircraft Corporation, a Russian aerospace conglomerate, said that the aircraft had concluded ground and flight trials, clearing them for delivery to the military. UAC did not identify how many jets were in the batch, but its press release indicated these were of an upgraded design that should have increased accuracy.
Interfax reported that this is the first delivery of combat aircraft to the Russian military for this year's order.
Russia uses the Su-34 to carry out strike missions. The jets have seen extensive use in Russia's war in Ukraine, but around 20 may have been shot down or lost since the war began in February 2022, according to open-source war monitors.
Separately, UAC also delivered a transport aircraft to the military this week, as well. The Il-76MD-90A transport delivered to the Air Force is a modernized version of the Il-76, in service with Russia and other Air Forces for decades.
