ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The U.S. Air Force, on behalf of Foreign Military Sales customers and the U.S. Department of Defense, awarded Lockheed Martin of Orlando, Fla., a $485.0 million ceiling indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract (FA8540-20-D-0001) for AAQ-33 Sniper, Infrared Search and Track (IRST), and AAQ-14 Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) navigation pod hardware production for fixed-wing aircraft. This award is the result of a sole-source acquisition.
Specific provisions of the contract include the necessary resources required for the management, fabrication, upgrade/retrofit, integration support and testing, and shipping of its non-developmental item (NDI) Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) system, NDI LANTIRN Fixed Image Navigation Set upgrades, and NDI IRST system. These criteria will be specified as they relate to the requirements associated with each specific delivery order placed under this contract. At the time of the award, under delivery order FA8540-20-F-0034, $34.9 million in FMS funds are being obligated for the country of Morocco.
The electro-optical pods covered by this contract, the AAQ-14 LANTIRN, AAQ-33 Sniper, and IRST systems are designed to provide fighter aircraft with the necessary tools of detection, engagement, and targeting, as well as day/night navigation and reconnaissance. Fighter jets utilizing these pods include: the EA-18G, F/A-18, F-15, and F-16. These platforms are widely deployed by a diverse and numerous set of international operators, and also hold a position of importance in the U.S. air fleet.
Some, but not all of the FMS customers included in the scope of this contract include: Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, the Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey.
The contracted work will be performed in Orlando, Fla., and various locations to be identified at the order level, and is expected to be completed by May 2025.
