GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY RECEIVES $320.7M USAF CONTRACT FOR MUDLAN NETWORK DEVELOPMENT
ROME, N.Y. -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded George Mason University of Fairfax, Va., a $320.7 million cost-type contract (FA8750-20-C-0555) for Mobile Unmanned/Manned Distributed Lethality Airborne Network (MUDLAN) accelerated development and demonstrations software and hardware. The contract provides for the enhancement of technologies to be developed under the MUDLAN Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration (MUDLAN JCTD) program, including digital beam forming, multi-beam Common Data Link apertures, directional K/Ku/eKU and W-band systems, MUDLAN multi-functional network controller (MFNC) for connecting multiple platforms while maneuvering, and using the MFNC to recognize jamming and autonomously move to other bands. This award is the result of a competitive acquisition, and two offers were received.
The contracted work will be performed in Fairfax, Va., and is expected to be complete by March 6, 2025.
The Air Force is obligating just $650,000 of the contract in Fiscal Year 2020 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation funds at the time of the award. The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Rome, N.Y., is the contracting activity.
