U.S. ARMY CONSIDERS IRON DOME PURCHASE
TEL AVIV -- The U.S. Army is considering a purchase of the Israeli-made Iron Dome air defense system. The Army is asking Congress for $373 million to purchase two batteries. The United States rarely purchases weapons from foreign countries.
If approved, the U.S. Army could receive the Iron Dome by 2020. The system would protect U.S. ground forces from unmanned air vehicles (UAVs), mortars, rockets, artillery and cruise missiles.
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems developed the Iron Dome system.
