MOSCOW -- The Russian government says the new 9M729 complies with the 1987 Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty. The United States is accusing Russia of breaching of the treaty with this new missile. This missile is fired from the Iskander missile system.

The INF treaty requires the destruction of ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges of between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.
