WARSAW -- The Polish Ministry of Defense placed an order for eight short-range tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the ORLIK family on November 18 that will be allocated for the Polish Army. These drones are designed to conduct reconnaissance missions to meet the needs for all Polish military service branches. The Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) holding company and a consortium of WZL-2 and PIT-Radwar designed and are producing the drones.
The PLN789.7 million ($209 million) contract includes an option for a further four systems. Each system consists of drones, mobile launchers, ground control station and a logistical vehicle, plus the necessary terminals.
Poland has an outstanding plan to procure four different UAV types for its armed forces through 2022, of which the ORLIK is one.
