Source: CIA

NEWTOWN, Conn. - Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete commissioned two new Navy patrol ships at Kigamboni Command's Base in Dar es Salaam. During the commissioning ceremony he stressed that strengthening the force was of paramount importance especially following the increase of marine crimes such as illegal fishing and piracy.

The two ships have been christened P77 Mwitongo and P78 Msoga, places where the father of the nation, Julius Kambarage Nyerere and President Kikwete were born, respectively. No other information was provided about the vessels.

The Tanzania navy currently has an estimated naval force of 1,000 personnel as well as a Marine Unit of about 100.
