NEWTOWN, Conn. - Venezuela will invest VEF120 million ($19 million) in the repair and modernization of the Army's fleet of AMX-13C90 tanks. The Ministry of Defense has authorized the release of funds from the National Development Fund known as the Fonden.
The AMX-13C90 tank upgrade is part of a major vehicle overhaul project for the Army that was announced in late 2013. A total of 300 vehicles will be include in the program with VEF444 million ($70.365 million) allocated. The recovery and upgrade program is scheduled to last for two years and will be carried out at the Army's Armor Maintenance Center (CEMABLIN) located at Fort Paramacay in Valencia, Carabobo state. Venezuelan personnel will perform the work.
The following vehicles will be included in the program: AMX-30V medium tanks, AMX-13C90 light tanks, Alvis Scorpion 90 tanks, FV105 Sultan command post vehicles, FV106 Samson ARV recovery vehicles, AMX-13 VTT armored personnel carriers, 6x6 TPZ-1 Fuchs armored personnel carriers, 4x4 V-100/150 Commandos, and 4x4 Dragoon 300 RV ARV troop transports.
