MOSCOW - Russia is working on the Udar (Strike) unmanned combat ground vehicle (UCGV). The prime contractor for this unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) is the Kovrov-based VNII Signal scientific-research institute. Russia plans to make this a fully autonomous robotic system.
During recent demonstrations, the Udar UGV bridged several obstacles and destroyed several targets at the firing range. VNII Signal is planning to integrate an artificial intelligence (AI) with the robot.
The Udar UCGV is based on the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). Tractor Plants Concern builds the BMP-3. This UGV will be able to carry a 30mm 2A42 automatic cannon and four ready-to-launch 9M133M-2 Kornet-M (AT-14 Spriggan) anti-armor guided missiles (ATGM).
In 2015, Russia unveiled the Uran-9. The Udar will complement the Uran-9. The Uran-9 will carry a single 2A72 cannon and two ready-to-launch 9M120 Ataka (AT-9 Spiral-2) missiles.
