APPLIED TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATES AWARDED CONTRACT FOR COUNTER UAS PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT
ALBUQUERQUE -- The United States Air Force has awarded Applied Technology Associates a prototype development award worth $17.6 million for the development of the company's LOCUST counter unmanned aircraft system (UAS) solution.
LOCUST is a ground-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) prototype for fixed-site Air Force Air Defense. LOCUST is designed for defense against both group 1 and group 2 UAS threats. The allocated funds granted by the Air Force will be used for accelerating the development, assembly, and testing of a prototype DEW. The development of this prototype is divided into two phases, with Phase 2 being an option. Phase 1 consists of design, assembly, and contractor testing.
The work will be done at Applied Technology Associates' home base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The completion date for the prototype is September 10, 2021.
