LONDON -- The United Kingdom is considering further cuts to its armed forces. A proposal could see cuts to the Royal Navy's minesweeper force.

In addition, the British Army's strength could fall to 55,000 and the the Royal Marine Brigade could lose its artillery, engineers and landing craft. The Royal Air Force could close several airbases, as well as retire Hercules transport aircraft and Puma helicopters.
