MOSCOW - The Russian Defense Ministry announced on April 26, 2017 that a MiG-31 interceptor jet crashed during a training exercise in Siberia. The jet's pilots are believed to have ejected.
"A MiG-31 interceptor jet of the Eastern Military District crashed during a training flight near the Telemba proving ground, the Republic of Buryatia, at 12:05 Moscow time. Both crewmembers reportedly ejected themselves."
The Ministry of Defense thereafter noted the pilots were rescued.
"A search and rescue service helicopter was dispatched to the site of the incident," according to the Ministry of Defense. "[The pilots] were promptly evacuated. Their life is not in danger."
The cause of the crash is currently unknown and therefore being investigated by Russia.
