LARGE TUBINE OEMS LOOKING AT JAPANESE MARKET
Thursday, February 26, 2015
KANTO REGION, Japan - The idling of Japan's nuclear power plants after the earthquake in 2011 has given an opening to LNG-fired power plants to be built as replacements. As such, the competition among GE, Siemens and Mitsubishi-Hitachi has intensified; at stake are orders worth several billions of yen. The Tokyo Electric Power Co. is planning to rebuild plants in the country's eastern region with a maximum capacity of 6 million kilowatts (the equivalent of six nuclear reactors). TEPCO plans to announce the winning big by March with plant operations to begin between 2021 and 2023.
