MOSCOW - Russia is developing a new unmanned air vehicle (UAV) and surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. Moscow says the new heavy UAV already exists and was created in cooperation with the Federal Security Service (FSB). This UAV will perform a variety of tactical and strategic missions.
The new S-500 air defense system could be available in 2017. The S-500 is reportedly able to engage 10 missiles at once. Russia claims the S-500 will rival U.S. technology, such as the Patriot air defense system.
Russia will test its Sarmat missile in 2015. This super heavy liquid-propelled intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) will be shipped before 2020. This missile is capable of delivering a 10-ton payload.
