ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - The Pakistani Air Force is reportedly planning to convert a Bombardier 6000 jet into an electronic warfare (EW) platform.

In its unofficial magazine "Second to None," the Pakistani Air Force confirmed its interest in adapting the jet for EW purposes. The Air Force had previously hinted at the conversion program in another publication.

Pakistan-focused website Quwa reported that the proposed project would involve support from Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), which is currently involved in a similar project for the Turkish Air Force, integrating Aselsan’s HAVA SOJ onto four Turkish Global 6000s. Quwa’s report suggested that Pakistan could thus become a customer for the HAVA SOJ as well, though Pakistan has not confirmed what EW suite it will ultimately integrate onto its jet.

HAVA SOJ is designed to suppress enemy radar systems and jam communications.

The Pakistani Air Force is aiming to improve its offensive capabilities with the EW upgrade, Quwa reported, drawing on lessons from the 2019 stand-off with India as well as expectations of how a future confrontation with the Indian Air Force could play out. In February 2019, India conducted airstrikes in Balakot, prompting Pakistan to carry out its own strikes on Indian-controlled territory in response.
