LONDON - Energy and Environmental Services provider Veolia will deliver a new 2MW combined heat and power plant (CHP) to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. The new energy plant will provide power, heat and steam generated by a single primary fuel source.

New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, a 700-bed hospital and major acute Trust, will have a new combined heating and power plant (CHP) installed by Veolia's1 packaged CHP team, Cogenco. It will be the Hospital's first onsite CHP system, comprising of a 2MWe CHP engine as well as 1,183kWe low temperature hot water (LTHW) and 1,500kg/hr steam units to ensure the delivery of power, hot water and steam services to the Hospital.

The new CHP engine, which uses natural gas as a primary fuel source, effectively recovers the heat produced as a by-product of the electrical generation process. The contained heat is then fed back into the system to heat up water. The CHP plant will cover approximately 40 percent of the Hospital's entire heating and water requirements and 75 percent of its electrical demand. The CHP will provide CO2 savings of over 3,000 tons per year.

In addition to the CHP installation, Veolia are contracted to operate and maintain the Hospital's CHP system for a period of 15 years.
