TEHRAN - Deputy Energy Minister of Iran, Houshang Falahatian, said that Iran is manufacturing 25-megawatt gas turbines for the first time.
Iran is joining the group of ten countries that have developed the technology for 25-megawatt turbines, as the Petroenergy news network SHANA reported his statement. Falahatian said the turbines manufactured in Iran cost 25 percent lower than foreign ones.
The official said Iran will need over 70 billion liters of fuel, valued at $70 billion, to generate enough electricity in the coming summer. Falahatian said the temperature will rise sharply in the summer, adding that consumption will exceed 50,000 megawatts per hour. He said the government has already raised electricity prices by 24 percent. Falahatian said no more hikes are planned as more subsidies are to be cut.
Falahatian said 2.5-megawatt wind parks have been purchased to be installed in the country. He said over the past 35 years, the country has produced only 200 megawatts/hour per day of electricity from renewable energies.
