DOHA, Qatar - The Qatari military has awarded a contract to Italy's Selex ES for the installation of an air surveillance and air defense radar system, reports Finmeccanica, which owns Selex ES.

The contract, which was signed in Doha on July 26, covers a network of Kronos multi-role radars and associated command-and-control centers "worth some hundreds of millions euro," according to a Selex press release.

The exact number of Kronos radar systems ordered by Qatar was not disclosed. Neither was a delivery schedule for the equipment and other contract details.

Finmeccanica-Selex ES said the contract was won through an intensive competitive selection process.
