U.S. PREPARES TO DELIVERY SAUDI AH-6I HELICOPTERS
NEWTOWN, Conn. - Saudi Arabia is expected to shortly receive the first of 24 Boeing AH-6i Little Bird light attack and reconnaissance helicopters from the United States.
The U.S. Army's Non-Standard Rotary-Wing Aircraft project office (NSRWA PO) has issued a sources sought notice for the transportation of an unspecified number of helicopters from the United States to the Saudi kingdom, as well as for pilot and maintainer training. The notice posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website does not indicate a timeline for deliveries to commence, but does state that responses must be received no later than midday on April 10.
In August 2014, 24 AH-6is Little Birds and 12 UH-60M Black Hawks were ordered for Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG). The AH-6i will be used by the SANG in the light attack role. The contract ($234.7 million) includes initial spare parts and ground support equipment. Work is expected to be completed by December 31, 2016.
