MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay - Argentinean Defense Minister, Agustín Rossi, has expressed an interest in acquiring additional Mil Mi-171 E helicopters from Russia.

The Argentinean Air Force already operates two Mi-171Es which were purchased in April 2010 and delivered in November 2011. The contract includes an option for an additional three. The Air Force hopes to eventually field a fleet of seven.

The procurement of additional Mi-171Es will depend upon Argentina's ability to acquire financing. The government is currently facing an economic crisis and has limited access to international credit. Russia reportedly offered to loan the money to Argentina back in mid-2011, but the option was never exercised.
