MOSCOW - Russian company Uralvagonzavod expects to deliver the first vehicles based on the next-generation Armata main battle tank platform soon.
According to Vyacheslav Khalitov, the deputy director general of the company, the advanced T-14 tank, a heavy infantry fighting vehicle and an armored ambulance are being designed under the Armata program.
About 20 of these vehicles will be delivered to the Russian military for testing in February and March, Khalitov said. Testing will begin after the May 9 military parade in Moscow.
The Armata will be shown to the public for the first time during the parade. Testing for the Armata will begin in 2016.
Uralvagonzavod plans to begin production deliveries as soon as 2017 and 2018. Production could reach as many as 2,300 units; however, final numbers could be reduced depending on Russia's financial difficulties, Khalitov warned.
