SAO PAULO, Brazil - The Brazilian subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters, Helibras, has begun construction of a new Center for Training and Simulation (CTS) in Rio de Janeiro. A flight simulator for the military EC725 helicopter and the civilian version, the EC225, will be installed at the center.
The facility is expected to be completed in the first half of 2015 and will be located in Recreio dos Bandeirantes in the western part of the city.
The simulators at the CTS will be Full Flight Simulators (FFS) which will enable pilots to complete their qualification and training requirements. Training on the new equipment is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2015. A second simulator may be acquired in the future.
Under an agreement signed between the Brazilian Ministry of Defense and EADS in June 2008, Brazil has purchased 50 EC725 Super Cougar helicopters. The deal includes technology transfer and allows Brazil to adapt the helicopters for local needs while involving Brazilian defense companies in the project.
