LIMA, Peru - In an effort to improve surveillance capabilities over Peru's national airspace, the Air Force is developing a new high-tech radar.
Construction of a prototype is currently under way, and the Air Force hopes that the system will be operational before the end of the year.
The development program is a joint initiative between the Air Force and Peru's National Commission for Development and a Drug Free Life (DEVIDA). DEVIDA is providing the financial resources for the projects, and in turn, the Air Force will be able to use the system for aerial surveillance purposes.
Information on the radar is limited, but according to the Air Force's Electronics Service, the system will have 3-D capabilities.
