MEXICO CITY - Thales has announced that the Mexican Air Navigation Service Provider (SENEAM) has selected Thales' technology for its air navigation renovation program for the second consecutive year. The Thales Instrumental Landing System (ILS) associated with Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) will provide safer landings and the VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range (VOR) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) will provide navigation capability at various airports. These VOR/DME systems will be used for both en-route and terminal area guidance.
As part of this contract, local industrial partner Amfar will ensure all necessary civil works, equipment installation, training, and all other logistical activities. Production of the systems will be completed in the next couple of months at the Thales Milan (Gorgonzola) site in Italy and will be delivered to SENEAM early next year. Thales was selected in 2010 to supply 4 ILS/VOR and seven VORDME systems to SENEAM.
