NEW DELHI - India plans to begin full production of its Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile in 2016. The second test flight of this long-range cruise missile achieved all its mission objectives, with the missile flying 621 miles during a 70-minute flight.
India claims the Nirbhay cruise missile will fill a vital gap in the war fighting capabilities of the nation's armed forces. The Nirbhay was developed by India's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) developed the Nirbhay cruise missile.
The first test flight took place in March of 2013. The test was terminated after a component malfunction. The missile weighs about 2,200 pounds.
