NEWTOWN, Conn. - Jordan and Indonesia are the most recent customers for the Javelin man-portable anti-armor missile system. This missile is manufactured by the JAVELIN Joint Venture, which includes Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The contract is worth a maximum of $53,367,877 and includes delivery of Block I missiles to the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and the Royal Jordanian Army.
Indonesia requested 180 Javelins and 25 CLUs in late 2012 and Jordan is already a customer for the missile. India, whose Army is facing a significant shortfall in various missile systems, including anti-armor weapons, could also place an order for Javelins. This anti-armor program will cost INR5,000 crore to INR9,900 crore and could involve the delivery of 8,000 to 24,000 missiles. These missiles are to arm 356 Indian Army infantry battalions.
India plans to have Bharat Dynamics Ltd build the selected missile locally.
