BELGIAN ARMY NEXT CUSTOMER FOR JAVELIN MISSILE

Tuesday, August 7, 2012
WASHINGTON - The Belgian Army could be the next customer for the FGM-148 Javelin man-portable anti-armor missile. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of this possible Foreign Military Sale. Belgium is looking to purchase 240 Javelin Block I missiles. With associated equipment and other items, this deal is worth an estimated $88 million.

The Javelin will replace the Belgium Army's current inventory MILAN missile systems. Exports currently account for more than 50 percent of all Javelins built. The annual production rate is falling, but could rebound in the future if the United States does procure an enhanced version of the Javelin.
