WASHINGTON - General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc has won another Reaper unmanned air vehicle (UAV) production contract. The modification contract awarded by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is worth $72.1 million and involves the manufacture of eight additional MQ-9 Reaper Block 5 unmanned aircraft. Work is expected to be completed December 31, 2017.

The U.S. fleet of Reaper UAVs is flying missions over Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, as well as other nations. The Pentagon is considering the procurement of a more capable medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aircraft, but this system might not be available until after 2020.
