NEW DELHI - India is working on its own unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV). The Autonomous Unmanned Research Aircraft (AURA) program could provide a system with stealth features. The Indian Air force could use this UCAV to deliver the payloads in hostile air defense environments. India's state-run Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is leading this project.

DRDO is already working on the RUSTOM -2 UAV. This system will perform reconnaissance and surveillance missions and could enter service in few years. India will build two or more prototypes. The AURA will incorporate more stealth features than the RUSTOM. The AURA could use a turbojet engine.

The AURA could perform its first flight in 2015.

China is investing billions of dollars in the procurement of UAVs and working to develop its own UCAV.
