NEW DELHI -- India will not purchase anti-armor missiles from Israel. The Indian Army had planned to acquire 1,600 Spike missiles under a $500 million contract with Rafael Advanced Defence Systems.
India had opted for the Spike over the U.S.-made Javelin anti-armor missile system. The Indian Ministry of Defence had already made this decision, but did not formally notify Rafael until last week. This announcement comes as India finalizes a $70 million deal for 131 Barak surface-to-air missiles from Rafael.
Instead of purchasing the Spike, India will attempt to develop a missile on its own.
