Forecast International Announces Ground-Breaking U.S. Defense Budget Forecast Tool

NEWTOWN, Conn. [April 26, 2011] — Forecast International (FI) is pleased to announce the release of its new U.S. Defense Budget Forecast online interface, an exceptionally comprehensive budget tracking tool.

This innovative new service tracks every line item in the U.S. Defense Budget's Procurement and RDT&E (Research, Development, Test & Evaluation) sections – more than 1,800 line items in all. FI's U.S. Defense Budget Forecast product covers it all – from the President’s Request to the final joint congressional actions – and includes FI's proprietary ten-year line item budget forecast.

The U.S. Defense Budget Forecast also includes Base funding, Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) funding, and other supplemental funding. Additional features include:

  • Congressional Budget Tracker: Follows each line item through the Appropriation and Authorization funding streams and details in graphics the funding provided by each action.
  • Budget Docs Access: Provides the actual justification documents for every R-1 and P-1 line item, allowing clients to read the descriptive summary and see exactly where the Pentagon expects the program to go.
  • Drill-Down and Hover-Over Capability: An intuitive interface that allows users to get the "top-down" view and also zoom in on the details for every Service, Appropriation Account, and Budget Activity Level.

In addition, U.S. Defense Budget Forecast includes a line-by-line presentation of the President's Request for Military Construction (C-1), Military Personnel (M-1), Operations and Maintenance (O-1), and the Revolving and Management Fund (RF-1).

"FI's forecast methodology includes a micro-level, bottom-up funding projection that incorporates an evaluation of the specific programs we believe will be funded, delayed, or canceled during the ten-year forecast period," said Shaun McDougall, FI's U.S. Defense Budget analyst. "The initial examination of individual line items is then subjected to a macro-level, top-down assessment based on analysis of the future military force structure that our analysts estimate will be fiscally supported by Congress, and of the projected topline funding for the RDT&E and Procurement accounts."
