LONDON -- The United Kingdom plans to field its new Future Cruise/Anti-Ship Weapon (FC/ASW) before 2030. France has yet to officially announce its planned in-service date.
The new cruise missile will enter service on the Type 26 frigates on 2028 with the Typhoon fighter deploying with this weapon in 2030. The FCASW will be compatible with the cells used by the Mk 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) and the SYLVER A70 VLS.
The FC/ASW program will complete its Concept Phase in 2021. The French name for this program is Futur Missile Anti-Navire/Futur Missile de Croisiere (FMAN/FMC). The prime contractor is MBDA.
The United Kingdom is also considering an interim replacement for the obsolete Harpoon Block 1C. The Next Generation Interim Surface Ship Guided Weapon (ISSGW) could be delivered starting December 2023.
