U.S. AIR FORCE TAPS CENTAURI TO DEVELOP MOVING TARGET RECOGNITION FOR SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADARS
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The U.S. Air Force awarded Centauri of Chantilly, Virginia, a division of KBR, an $11.1 million ($12.1 cumulative) cost-plus-fixed-fee contract (FA8650-21-C-7115) for the Moving Target Recognition (MTR) effort. Under the terms of the contract, Centauri will develop algorithms and collection techniques to enable synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors to detect, geolocate, and image moving ground targets. This award is the result of a competitive acquisition.
The U.S. Department of Defense revealed that the technology's emphasis will be on military vehicle targets, including slow moving vehicles whose SAR signatures are superimposed on clutter.
The contracted work will be performed in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Navarre, Florida, and is expected to be completed by January 30, 2024. The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity.
