MANILA -- The Philippine government is moving to acquire unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) from Israel. Elbit Systems Ltd is close to winning a $180 million deal with the Philippine Army. This deal could be signed in the coming weeks.

Philippines could acquire the Hermes 900 and Hermes 450, and the Skylark 1 and Skylark 3 UAVs. Manila will use these UAVs to gather intelligence and patrols the nation's borders.

Elbit Systems is already upgrading the Philippine Army's M113 armored personnel carrier (APC) fleet.
