ARLINGTON, Va. -- The U.S. Marines Corps could outfit its MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft with an air-launched unmanned air vehicle (UAV) that would provide advanced reconnaissance of potential threats.

The Air-Launched Fast Autonomous Reconnaissance System (AFARS) could offer a maximum range of 165 nautical miles or a 100 nm range with a 10 minute loiter time. The UAV can fly at an altitude of 25,000 feet and carry a payload of up to 4.4 pounds.

The program is still in the early stages of development.
