NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT) program is the U.S. Navy component of the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) program. NMT is a multiband capable satellite communications terminal that provides protected and wideband communications. NMT supports extremely high frequency (EHF), advanced EHF low data rate, medium data rate, extended data rate, super high frequency, military Ka (transmit and receive) and global broadcast service receive-only communications.

The goal for the NMT program is to create a military satellite communications system that consolidates capabilities of current and future satellite systems into a single terminal. The system replenishes and improves on the terminal capabilities of the Navy's Military Strategic, Tactical and Relay (Milstar) satellite system; Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS); Wideband Global Satellites (WGS); and Global Broadcast Service (GBS).

The system equips warfighters with assured, jam-resistant, secure communications. The NMT provides multiband satcom capability for ships, submarines, and protected MILSATCOM shore sites.

Production is expected to wind down around 2027. Efforts will then concentrate on software updates, followed by the development of a next-generation terminal.
