NEW DELHI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is expressing an interest in the Indian-designed Akash surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. India's state-run Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is leading this program. The Akash missile is produced by Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) and has a range of 25 kilometers.

In addition, the UAE could purchase the BrahMos supersonic strike missile. The UAE is possibly looking at the DRDO-developed Astra beyond-visual-range air- to-air missile for use from its Mirage fighters.
