NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The follow-on BAE Systems BONUS II projectile reportedly entered production in 2005 for Swedish and French procurement. By the time the BONUS II production run was completed in 2013, the Forecast International Weapons Group estimates Sweden had procured 3,000 rounds and France, 6,000. This level of procurement mirrors each nation's original BONUS order.
In November 2017, the Swedish Defense and Material Administration awarded BAE Systems a contract to deliver 254 additional BONUS rounds to the Swedish Army through 2019.
A Tough Market
Even though a number of European nations have considered the BONUS artillery-delivered anti-tank munition, BONUS has yet to score significant export sales. Other interested parties have included India and an unidentified country in Latin America, possibly Chile.
The German SMART 155 remains the principal competitor to BONUS in Europe. However, the improved sensor package of the BONUS II has not enhanced the prospects for this munition on the international market.
The Forecast International Weapons Group maintains a minimal forecast of potential export sales for the time being. BONUS remains essentially an unknown quantity on the international market.
