MASTERS OF ARTILLERY FIRE PRELIMINARIES KICK OFF IN WESTERN MD

MOSCOW -- The Masters of Artillery Fire 2018 first preliminaries are underway at several training grounds in Moscow, Leningrad, Belgorod, Kaliningrad and Bryansk regions. It is the first time the competition is being held among mortar platoons. Previously, only mortar crews participated in the contest.

In course of the preliminary stage, artillery servicemen will fire the 120mm Sani mortars, meet standards in tactical, technical, special, reconnaissance and physical training.

The troops are to eliminate three non-armored targets at a distance of up to 1,500m without pretraining. Only map, compass, binoculars and a radio station can be used for communication and navigation.

The referees will operate UAVs to control target engagement. The best mortar units will qualify for the second stage in combined arms formations of the Western MD.

In total, the first preliminaries of the Masters of Artillery involve more than 100 mortar units of the Western MD.
