MOSCOW - The Russian Navy conducted a missile strike on Islamic State targets in Syria on October 6. The submarines 'Veliky Novgorod' and 'Kolpino' fired 10 Kalibr cruise missiles from positions in the Mediterranean Sea.
The strikes were in support of Syrian troops engaged in a ground offensive in Deir-ez-Zor province. The missiles hit Islamic State targets located outside the Syrian town of Meyadin, including command centers, large ammunition depots, and hangars housing armored vehicles.
The Velikiy Novgorod and Kolpino submarines are from the Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet.
