NEW DELHI -- The Indian Navy performed a successful test of its Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) May 17. Indian officials called this a significant milestone in enhancing the Indian Navy's Anti-Air Warfare Capability.

The firing occurred on the Western Seaboard by Indian guided-missile destroyers Kochi and Chennai. The missiles intercepted different aerial targets at extended ranges.

The firing trial was carried out by the Indian Navy, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The missile is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Ltd.
