TALLINN - NATO will send new patrol assets to the Baltic region. NATO's Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) system will be stationed at a base in the Baltic from 2017. A version of the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned air vehicle (UAV) is part of the AGS system.
The Baltic States are facing an increasing level of aggression from Russia. The AGS system is operated and maintained by all 28 NATO allies. This system will provide commanders with a comprehensive situation of occurrences on the ground.
The main operating base for the UAV will be the Signella NATO base in Italy.
