DAKAR -- Senegal has ordered new radar systems.
In a statement on April 19, 2018, Thales announced that it had reached an agreement with Senegal for the delivery of Ground Master 400 air surveillance radar and SkyView command and control systems. DefenceWeb quoted the firm as saying in a statement, "The Senegalese armed forces are to deploy a state-of-the-art airspace surveillance and control capability."
The statement did not note how many would be delivered.
Senegal will install the radars at the Ouakam Air Base, located in the capital, Dakar. DefenceWeb noted that deliveries are expected to begin sometime next year.
The Senegalese military has imported new military equipment in recent years, buying both new-build and second-hand hardware for its Air Force, in particular. These acquisitions include Mi-24 helicopters, refurbished in Poland, and a contract announced recently for the procurement of four L-39NG aircraft. The L-39NGs, defenceWeb reported, will come equipped with AIM-9L missiles, giving the aircraft the ability to conduct air-to-air missions.
