LIMA -- The Peruvian Navy has ordered two new Rio Pativilca class patrol vessels from SIMA Peru. The vessels will be part of the Rio Pativilca class (PGC-50) offshore patrol vessels. Rio Pativilca class vessels are based on South Korea's Taeguk class ships.

Construction under the PEN175 million ($53.4 million) contract is expected to begin in June of this year and will continue through mid-2019.

The vessels will be the fifth and sixth in the class and will be used to improve coast guard and search and rescue operations.
