TOKYO - Japan plans to test a new package delivery system that uses an unmanned air vehicle (UAV). Japan's Ministry of Environment will perform tests of this parcel delivery service in sparsely populated areas. The testing will begin in Fiscal 2018. The Japanese fiscal year begins next April.
In less populated areas of Japan, parcel delivery services are often inefficient. Unmanned air vehicles will provide an alternative to current delivery means, such as trucks.
Deliveries using UAVs could begin in Japanese cities in the 2020s.
