HOT MARKETS FOR THE NEXT DECADE
AIRBORNE RETROFIT & MODERNIZATION FORECAST
Production of aircraft in various sectors is beginning to slow. Instead of looking to expand fleets, operators in the military and commercial sectors are looking to maximize their current investments. This is opening up multiple opportunities for the expansion of retrofit and modernization programs. Forecast International's Airborne Retrofit & Modernization Forecast is the single-source coverage you need for information on cargo conversions, re-engining, service life extensions, fleet-wide electronics retrofits, digital cockpit upgrades, and the installation of in-flight entertainment systems. This product provides a one-stop service for tracking the status of commercial and military R&M programs in progress worldwide, and pinpoints key developments in the aviation industry that will impact the market in the future.
This service includes four Market Segment Analyses that provide in-depth coverage of the R&M markets for Fighter/Attack/Trainer Aircraft, Commercial & Military Transports, Light Aircraft, and Aero Engines. These Analyses identify market trends and competitive dynamics and provide unit and value market projections, along with complementary tables and graphs.
BUSINESS AIRCRAFT TRANSACTIONS & EVALUATION GUIDES
This service offers reliable market intelligence in the form of program reports and market analyses on the Business Jet & Turboprop markets and the Business Rotorcraft market, making it the most comprehensive business aircraft product line available.
The recent economic downturn hit the business aircraft market particularly hard. This sector trends very close to the global economy and, consequently, manufacturers were hit by a wave of order cancellations in 2009. However, as the global economy has begun to make a comeback, so too has the business aircraft market. There is cautious optimism in the industry, but it will take time for build rates to reach pre-slump levels. This product line is specifically designed to suit the needs of financial institutions, charter operators, business aircraft owners and dealers. These products provide business aircraft professionals with complete FAA & Foreign Registry transactions and financial activities for business aircraft. Specific details of each transaction are provided to the subscriber in make, model and serial number sequence; also made available are the actual FAA documents for each transaction.
ROTORCRAFT FORECAST
The world rotorcraft market is one of the hottest sectors in the aerospace industry, expected to be worth some $164 billion over the next 10 years.
This service includes five Market Segment Analyses that explore the dynamics affecting the markets for Light Military Rotorcraft, Medium/Heavy Military Rotorcraft, Light Commercial Rotorcraft, Medium/Heavy Commercial Rotorcraft, and Aviation Turboshaft Engines. In addition to describing market factors and trends, these analyses identify the manufacturers that will dominate the market in the years ahead. These reports are enhanced with numerous tables and graphs that break out the forecasts by manufacturer in terms of unit production and value of production.
Completing the service are six appendices that provide consolidated production statistics, information on historical production, and an inventory of military rotorcraft registered worldwide. Appendices also include a Civil Rotorcraft Inventory covering 27,000+ helicopters by country, designation, and registrant.
UNMANNED VEHICLES FORECAST
A Global Hawk UAV can conduct surveillance operations over Afghanistan while its pilot sits at the controls halfway around the world at a base in California. Unmanned vehicles are game changers. They are changing the way both friend and foe conduct operations, and are an indispensable element of modern military operations worldwide. The market for these systems is therefore experiencing phenomenal growth.
The 10-year market for UAV reconnaissance systems is worth $38.8 billion ($17.9 billion for production; $20.9 billion for R&D).
All segments are covered: airborne, land, sea and underwater. Along with technical data and contractor information, the individual reports feature a program overview, recent news, funding charts, worldwide sales data, and 10-year market projections. Two Market Segment Analyses explore the economic, financial and political factors driving the markets for Aerial Targets and Reconnaissance UAVs. These analyses come complete with numerous charts and graphs for added perspective on market activity. Appendices include a user inventory and a breakout of consolidated production statistics.

TO BE RELEASED IN AUGUST 2010
THE MARKET FOR MULTIMISSION COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS
Demand for multimission communications looks healthy for the near future. Forecast International is projecting that defense departments worldwide will spend some $10.21 billion on 26 different multimission communications development, acquisition, and maintenance programs over the next decade. Additionally, from among the 19 multimission communications products specifically examined in this analysis, defense departments will buy 515,943 individual units over the next 10 years.
From 2010 to 2019, Forecast International is projecting five companies will receive 55.36 percent of the total dollar amount that defense departments worldwide will spend on the 26 products and programs covered in this analysis. Harris will lead with $1.80 billion in revenue. Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, ITT, and Rockwell Collins will follow with $1.53 billion, $1.19 billion, $581.35 million, and $545.04 million in revenue, respectively.

THE MARKET FOR MICROTURBINE ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATION
The market for microturbine-powered electrical power generation spans the power output range of 30 kW to 250 kW. It is composed of distinct submarkets, some of which have subsectors depending on the ultimate use of the machine, such as baseload power generation as opposed to peaking duty. Each of the sectors is affected by slightly differing market conditions that become translated into sales activity and eventually into the production of the gas turbine engines/machines.
In the 10-year period 2010-2019, Forecast International projects that 10,521 microturbine machines having a value of production of over $525 million (in calendar-year 2010 U.S. dollars) will be manufactured. We believe that the marketplace will continue to rise to a peak of 1,110 units per year in 2013, after which the annual production totals should begin to drop off – a drop due to what we project will be the increasing acceptance of fuel cells in everyday use, especially in private residences and very small retail establishments.
In terms of the number of machines to be produced from 2010-2019, we project that this marketplace will be dominated by Capstone Turbine Corp (with a 57 percent share of unit production), followed by (Calnetix) Elliott, Ingersoll-Rand, and Turbec. At present, GE Energy, Honda, Honeywell, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Niigata, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, and Solar Turbines are not active in this arena. Of the four major participants, Capstone has excelled in publicizing its activities and sales.
With the Kawasaki and Niigata 300-kW machines no longer viable contenders in this marketplace, the microturbine that is currently the highest rated in this arena is Ingersoll Rand's 250 Series, at about 250 kW.

THE MARKET FOR ANTI-SHIP MISSILES
Anti-ship missiles remain a key weapon in the arsenals of navies worldwide, although they have not seen much action over the last 15 years. They are still the easiest and least expensive way to increase the firepower of a naval force, especially smaller craft. The fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006 showed the impact that anti-ship missiles can have on an inattentive navy.
The value of this market will grow over the next 10 years, reaching $9 billion in revenues by 2019. The total number of missiles produced during this time will exceed 12,000 units.
The leading providers of anti-ship missiles will remain those companies located in North America and Europe, namely Boeing and MBDA. Although these firms have seen production volume decline in recent years, they still offer the most capable missiles on the market.
Code F658 $695 Shipping & Handling: $25 U.S./$45 World
THE MARKET FOR NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE SYSTEMS
The world naval surface warfare market is expected to reach an estimated $10.101 billion in value over the next 10 years, a 25.2 percent increase over last year's $8.067 billion total. This year's 10-year projection is sales of 12,927 naval surface warfare systems, a 4.8 percent increase over sales projections in last year's market overview, which forecast sales of 12,332 individual units. The average cost of the units represented in this edition is $781,387, as compared with $654,152 in last year's survey. Thus, the average cost of individual units has increased by 19.45 percent. A major reason behind these marked increases is that advancing time has added a number of new weapons systems to this market overview. These are intended to replace current-generation systems and, arriving at the extreme end of the forecast period, tend to drive the average unit cost upward.
